Description
3000 lumens of flood. 2000 lumens of spot. Every colour mode. One light. Under $400.
The Hydra 3000 V2 is the entry point to the full Hydra experience — the same WRGBU colour array that powers the 10K and 12K in a compact, affordable package. If you’ve been curious about UV fluorescence work, red mode on night dives, or Disco Mode (automatic RGB cycling) but weren’t ready to commit to a bigger light, this is where you start.
The V2 upgrade from the original Hydra 3000 is the dial. Where the V1 stepped through power levels with repeated button presses, the V2 has a proper dimmer dial — smooth, intuitive adjustment from any power level to any other, even with gloves on. Small change, significant difference on a dive where conditions change mid-shot.
Flood covers 110° for wide-angle video and general diving. The 2000-lumen spot at 15° gives you reach for navigation, signaling, and macro focus. Two beams, full colour range, one hand to control it.
The Colour Modes
Same WRGBU array as the rest of the Hydra line:
- White (3000 lm flood / 2000 lm spot): General illumination at 5500K wide / 6500K spot
- Red: Focus without spooking nocturnal marine life. What the reef sees at night, this mode doesn’t disturb
- Green: Alternative focus light — cameras lock onto green faster than red in some conditions
- Blue: Fluorescence work, creative effects, narrowband illumination
- UV: The mode that shows you the reef you didn’t know was there. Corals, nudibranchs, anemones — completely different under UV
- Manual RGB: Mix your own colours for creative video work
- Disco Mode: Automatic RGB cycling through the spectrum. Not a gimmick on a wide-angle reef shot — it’s genuinely interesting footage
Burst Mode — Fiber-Optic Triggered
Sync via fiber optic cable to your camera’s built-in flash and the Hydra 3000 V2 fires a quick brightness spike timed to your shutter. Recycle is fast. Not a strobe replacement — the flash duration is longer than a xenon strobe, so very fast subjects won’t freeze as sharply — but for macro on nudibranchs, shrimp, and cleaning stations, it gives you noticeably better results than continuous light alone.
