Description
Hydra 2200 WSR: Compact Underwater Video and Focus Lighting
The Kraken Hydra 2200 WSR combines a 110° wide beam, a 20° spot beam and red mode in a compact underwater light. With 2,200 lumens in either white-light mode and auto flash-off for strobe-based still photography, it suits divers who want one small light for close-range video and focus-light duties.
Choose the Beam for Your Shot
- Wide mode for nearby video subjects: the 110° beam provides broad white illumination for close-range footage. Start with nearby subjects and adjust distance, positioning and output to suit the water and your camera’s exposure.
- Spot mode for concentrated illumination: the 20° beam concentrates the light into a smaller area when you do not need wide coverage.
- Focus-light use with strobes: auto flash-off helps keep the focus light’s illumination out of the still-photo exposure when a strobe fires. The feature is for still photography, not an extra benefit for continuous video recording.
- Red mode for another lighting option: select red illumination when your shooting workflow calls for it. It is not the same as a white video beam or a fluorescence excitation mode.
- Adjustable power: choose 100%, 50% or 25% output rather than using maximum brightness for every subject.
Is the Hydra 2200 WSR Right for You?
Choose it if you want a compact wide/spot/red light, an auto-flash-off focus light for a strobe-equipped camera, or white illumination for nearby action-camera subjects. Its body measures 38mm × 146mm and weighs 205g on land.
Consider a higher-output light if white-light video is your main priority and you need more output. The Abyss 6000 is our preferred higher-output starting point when budget and rig size permit. Compare runtime as well as lumens: the Hydra 2200 WSR is rated for 60 minutes at 100% flood. More output does not guarantee cleaner footage in murky water or illuminate distant scenery.
Mounting and Camera Setup
A YS mount is included. Match it to a suitable YS-compatible arm connection; a tray, arm, camera and underwater housing are not listed among the included items. The light’s 100m depth rating does not change your camera housing’s own rating.

Hydra 2200 WSR Questions
Can I use it for GoPro or other action-camera video?
Yes. Wide mode provides continuous white light for close-range video. You will need a suitable camera mounting arrangement and any underwater housing required by your camera and dive depth.
Does it have auto flash-off?
Yes. The Hydra 2200 WSR has auto flash-off for use as a focus light in strobe-based still photography. It is a separate feature from selecting the listed Burst mode.
Does the 60-minute rating mean it will cover my entire dive?
The published rating is 60 minutes at 100% flood, not a guarantee for every dive or battery condition. Plan around how long you will actually use the light and charge the battery before your dive.
