KR-S80+ Underwater Strobe

CA$ 832.01

A more directed beam for snooted macro. The KR-S80+ uses a straight flash tube to help a snoot capture light more effectively than the round-tube S80.

80 Ws of manual flash power, a 1-second full-power recycle and a built-in 3000-lumen video light. Choose it for directed lighting and snoot-focused photography; choose the original S80 for broader native coverage.

Description

A more directed flash. A better starting point for snooted macro.

The Kraken KR-S80+ puts 80 Ws of manual flash power behind a straight flash tube. Compared with the original S80’s round tube, its more directed beam lets a snoot capture the light more effectively—an important advantage when your lighting is built around a small, precisely illuminated subject.

Why the straight flash tube matters

A snoot gathers light from the strobe and directs it onto a small area. The S80+ sends its flash in a more concentrated beam rather than spreading it across the original S80’s broad field. That helps the snoot collect the light more effectively, making the S80+ a compelling choice for photographers who want to isolate a nudibranch, highlight fine details or keep distracting surroundings out of the light.

The advantage is beam design, not extra flash energy: both S80 models are rated at 80 Ws. Actual snooted coverage and output depend on the snoot optics, aperture and working distance. The KR-SN07 optical snoot fits directly: the S80+ uses the same body as the original S80, with a different internal flash tube and LEDs.

Manual flash control, fast recycling

Choose from six flash power settings, from 2 to 80 Ws. A listed 1.0-second full-power recycle time and approximately 800 full-power flashes per charge support repeated shooting without frequent battery changes. S1, S2 and Multi modes provide optical triggering options; flash exposure is controlled manually, not by TTL.

Built-in 3000-lumen video light

The integrated video light delivers a 50° beam with four brightness settings: 100%, 75%, 25% and 10%, plus off. The strobe uses two 4000mAh 21700 batteries with USB-C charging ports.

S80 or S80+: choose the beam for the way you shoot

Both strobes deliver 80 Ws; the difference is how they direct that flash. The KR-S80 uses a round flash tube for broad coverage. The KR-S80+ uses a straight flash tube and a more directed beam, allowing a snoot to capture the light more effectively. For photographers building a setup around snooted macro, that is a practical reason to choose the S80+—not simply a higher guide number on a specification sheet.

Choose S80+ when snoot efficiency and directed lighting are priorities. Choose S80 when broader native coverage better suits your shooting. The S80+ offers over-60° flash coverage, expanding to 100° with a diffuser, compared with the S80’s over-140° coverage. Neither replaces the other: choose the beam pattern for your subjects and lighting accessories.

Both are manual strobes with a built-in 3000-lumen video light. The S80+ is US$599. The KR-SN07 optical snoot fits both the S80 and S80+ directly, with no different adapter required. They share the same body; the S80+ differs in its internal flash tube and LEDs.
