Sammy Glenn-Smith
Sam Glenn-Smith is an underwater photographer living and specialising in photographing the incredible marine world of the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria, Australia. Working as a Master Scuba Diver Trainer, Dive Guide and professional photographer at The Scuba Dive Shop, Sam spends many days a week in the water and has grown in appreciation for the wonderful marine life local to the area, in particular the Weedy Seadragons and Southern Blue Ringed Octopus.
A self-taught photographer, Sam has continued to push himself and his talents to showcase in a unique and spectacular way his local world through a refined and unique signature style of photography.
Sam uses an Olympus OMD EM1 Mk2 camera with Isotta Housing, and dual Kraken KR-S160 Strobes to capture vivid and dramatic images of Weedy Seadragons under their natural habitat of some of his local piers. Starting with a background in macro photography and split shots (over/unders), Sam has shifted his focus to close focus wide angle, capturing incredible details whilst also showcasing the environment these wonderful creatures reside. Sam uses these images to convey how close to home many of these incredible species are too many of us how may not even know what lives under the water or piers that we walk along daily.
In Sam’s words, his set of Kraken KR-S160 strobes “have allowed me to do things I never dreamed of in underwater photography. The even lighting and powerful strobes create such a uniform and perfect light that works so well with many of the creatures I photograph. Paired with the Optical snoot for Macro photography, these are the best strobes I have ever used and will continue to use them with pride and great joy”.
