Kolin Hansen

Kolin Hansen is the creator behind Getting Salty, with a passion for bringing the incredible marine life of the Pacific Northwest to the forefront. Through photography, videography, art, and design, Kolin showcases the beauty of the region’s unique underwater world.

A certified technical diver and recreational enthusiast, Kolin earned his certifications in the cold waters of British Columbia,  developing a deep connection to its rich, emerald waters (though he enjoys the occasional tropical escape).

His diving journey has fostered a profound appreciation for the diverse and often underappreciated marine life that thrives along British Columbia’s coast. Specializing in underwater photography and videography, Kolin focuses on capturing the vibrant and colorful creatures that inhabit these waters, including the epic Giant Pacific Octopus, colourful Puget Sound King Crabs, stunning nudibranchs, and a vast variety of unique fish species.

Kolin’s experiences in the water inspired him to create an ongoing series of digital paintings that highlight the beauty of the critters he encounters. These designs are available as stickers, magnets and other merchandise at GettingSalty.ca, and Kolin is thrilled to share these stunning creatures with people worldwide, both online and in local aquariums and stores.

Backed by a strong local dive community, Kolin’s mission is to highlight the wonders of cold-water diving and share the weird and wonderful marine life beneath British Columbia’s emerald waters with the rest of the world.
