Kraken Sports: Born from Passion, Driven by Innovation
Kraken Sports is the product of a lifetime spent in, on, and under the water. Founded by Doug Taleski, a third-generation entrepreneur and second-generation dive professional, the company embodies a deep love for the lakes, oceans, and every body of water in between. Doug’s passion for the underwater world began early—learning to snorkel as soon as he could swim and spending countless hours exploring beneath the surface.
The story of Kraken Sports began in Canada, where Doug’s family owned a dive retail store. While importing standard dive torches for the shop, Doug realized there had to be a better way to create high-quality dive lights at a more accessible price. What started as distributing products from various manufacturers soon grew into something much bigger. In 2015, Doug made the bold decision to launch his own brand. He named it Kraken Sports after the legendary sea creature—a fitting symbol for a company determined to bring power, innovation, and reliability to the underwater world.
Kraken Sports quickly gained a reputation for delivering high-performance, reasonably priced products designed by divers, for divers. With feedback from professional divers and a relentless drive to innovate, the company began designing and refining its own line. By 2020, Kraken Sports took a major step forward by establishing its own manufacturing facility in Foshan, China. With the exception of lenses, all Kraken products are now designed and produced in-house—ensuring consistency, quality, and performance that divers can trust.
Today, Kraken Sports is recognized around the world for its dive lights, underwater imaging tools, housings, and accessories. But the journey doesn’t stop there. With the same passion and eye for innovation, we’re beginning to explore new frontiers—creating apparel and gear designed not just for underwater exploration, but for life lived on, by, and in the water.
