Shawn Murphy

Shawn Murphy is a professional underwater photographer, cave diver, and expedition guide based in Mexico. His work takes place in dark, confined, and technically demanding underwater environments, where precision, discipline, and controlled lighting are essential to both safety and image-making.
Before entering the dive world, Shawn was a professional chef. At 21, he sold everything he owned and committed fully to diving, carrying the same focus, preparation, and attention to detail into technical training, guiding, and underwater imaging.
His journey has included running dive operations internationally and working across a wide range of conditions—from macro-rich waters in the Philippines, oceanic and tiger sharks in the Bahamas, and kelp forests of Southern California, to cold, rocky shorelines of New England and historic Mediterranean sites. This experience informs a technically grounded approach to cave, wreck, macro, shark, and advanced lighting photography.
Current Project
Shawn is currently focused on 3D photogrammetry of historic shipwrecks in the Great Lakes, using technical diving and precision lighting to create high-resolution digital models for preservation and research.
